You can basically differentiate between three different types of organic SEO. That's On-Page SEO, off page SEO, and technical SEO. And then there is local SEO where you do a couple more things additionally, to optimize your website for local search. SEO needs are not all the same. Some are prerequisites for others and they build on one another. You can think of it of like a pyramid. Now let's dive in deeper into different SEO needs. This is the Dragon Digital Marketing Podcast. Get ready for the digital marketing strategies and tactics that attract great customer relationships to your business. Here is your host, Monique Idemudia. Hi there. This is Monique and you're listening to episode number nine of the Dragon Digital Marketing Podcast. Today, I want to talk to you about the different types of SEO and the hierarchy of SEO needs. You can basically differentiate between three different types of organic SEO. That's onpage SEO, off page SEO, and technical SEO. On-page SEO is how you optimize your content on your website. It's about your images, your text, your URLs, all of the content that is on your page. Off page SEO is how you build powerful backlinks to your content. It's all about link building. If a lot of other websites link out to your website, it tells Google that your site must be important and relevant, and then they'll rank you higher. And technical SEO is how you make it easy for Google to crawl, index, and rank your website. It's about improving your site load speed, and it has to do with the code that your website consists of. And then there is local SEO, where you do basically the same things, meaning onpage, offpage, and technical SEO, and a couple more things additionally, to optimize your website for local search. If you're interested in seeing the local ranking factors, make sure to check out the show notes of episode seven on dragon-digital-marketing.com. There you can find a list, and there you can also find a list of all Google ranking factors in general, and the local ones as well, and all of them are also explained in episode seven. Now, let's dive in deeper into what the different SEO needs are that fit into those three categories, onpage SEO, offpage SEO, and technical SEO. SEO needs are not all the same. Some are prerequisites for others and they build on one another. You can think of it of like a pyramid. Some are basic SEO needs and the foundation of the pyramid, and others are enhancements and more towards the top of the pyramid. A necessary requirement for all other SEO efforts is crawl accessibility. This allows for search engine spiders to crawl and rank your site. It's about making sure that your pages can actually be crawled, and indexed, and rank in Google, and that you don't accidentally block the Google web crawler. The next thing that's fundamentally important as well is your content. Content marketing and SEO go hand in hand. Your web pages display content that people can look at, read, and interact with. And it's that content that Google looks at. Your content has to be high quality, answer the search query, and match the search intent. When doing keyword optimization, you include relevant keywords that you want to rank for on your page. You wave them into your content in all the right places to attract visitors and just signal relevance to search engines. You also want to ensure that your users get the best user experience. Make sure your user interface looks appealing and it's easy and intuitive to use, your look and feel is coherent and professional, and your website is mobile friendly and fully responsive on all devices. You also achieve a good user experience by publishing valuable content that isn't mediocre, and super useful, and usable, findable, credible, and desirable, and also accessible for everybody, including people with impaired sight. And avoid the use of industry jargon and technical terms and use easy language to ensure a good readability as well. Making sure your site loads fast is also part of offering a good user experience. I mean, who has the patience to wait for a website to load? The next thing in the hierarchy of SEO needs is ensuring shareworthiness. Ideally, you would want your content to go viral. Who doesn't want that? It's hard to achieve but Jonah Berger has six amazing tips in his book "Contagious" that I highly recommend you check out. It's one of the best books in the marketing category out there. I'll leave the link below in the show notes on dragon-digital-marketing.com. When your content spreads, it reaches more people, more people share it, and it earns you mentions and backlinks. So you want your content to be contagious and the book teaches you how. To optimize your pages even further, you want to take a look at your page titles, meta descriptions, and your URL's. Those three items should contain your main keyword you want to target and be optimized for clicks. You want as many people to click on your search result, right,, so make yours compelling to attract more clicks. Don't do clickbait, though. Remember that matching search intent is so important. Now, this is the icing on the cake. This is what you do to further enhance your content. It's schema markup. Schema markup, also called structured data, is code that you put on your website, and what it does is it makes your pages eligible to be featured in enhanced search results in Google. Have you ever noticed that certain search results stand out from others? They're featured in boxes and often have images, too. Local featured snippets often come with a large map, and underneath that map, relevant businesses in that area appear. Recipes come with pictures and some key information about the recipe, like the time it takes to prepare them and the rating of the recipe. Or the question and answer featured snippet where you can click on a question and then unfold the answer. That's the kind of things that implementing schema markup helps you to be featured in. Those featured snippets earn much more clicks because they stand out. And there you have it. That is the hierarchy of SEO needs. You can see an infographic of it on dragon-digital-marketing.com in the show notes of this episode. This episode number nine. Summing up. Here's what I want you to take away from this episode. There are three basic types of organic SEO: On page SEO, off page SEO, and technical SEO. Local SEO is a complement to organic SEO and it further optimizes your website if you're a local business to attract more business from relevant local searches. Not all SEO needs have the same significance and there is a hierarchy of SEO needs that goes like this from the bottom of the pyramid to the top. Number one: Crawl Accessibility. Number Two: Content optimization. Number three: Keyword optimization. Number four: User experience. Number five: Shareworthiness. Number six: Page title, meta description, and URL. And number seven: Schema markup or structured data. Don't forget to get that SEO checklist. You can download it in the show notes of this episode on dragon-digital-marketing.com It is super comprehensive and contains actionable tips you can execute right now all by yourself.
