  • Off-page SEO is very much like traditional PR. You try to get publicity for your business by being mentioned and linked to from credible websites in your industry which gets you in front of your ideal audience. Search engines like Google pick up on authoritative and trustworthy websites with a credible backlink profile that positions the company as an expert in theri field and thus ranks you higher.
  • Before you get started with building links, get clear on your goals. Do you want higher rankings in Google or just more exposure, brand awareness, and traffic? For which keywords and pages do you want to improve your rankings? Who could be good targets to rech out to? What do you offer in exchange for the backlinks? What's your outreach messaging going to look like? Who follows up how and when? Who keeps track of the linkbuilding campaign progress? Answer those questions before getting started.
  • A default do-follow link is like a vote for your website and gives you link equity. A no-follow link does not give you any link equity but can give you traffic and exposure.
  • Use your common sense when determining if a backlink from a website is valuable to you or not and don't solely rely on SEO tools and the metrics they show.
  • Off-site SEO metrics like domain authority (DA), domain rating (DR), or domain score (DS) are based on links as well and wensites with a lot of backlinks typically have a higher score between 1 and 100.
  • The art of link building: Authority, Relevancy & Trust – These are the three signals a good link should provide.
  • Not all links count the same. There are major differences in quality. Bad links can actually hurt your SEO and you can get penalized from Google. Never buy links becasue everybody can buy these same links which makes them invaluable. Make sure the website linking to your small business website has authority in your space, and is a credible, trustworthy resource that you want to be associated with.
  • Non-link-related off-site SEO:
    • Social media marketing
    • Guest blogging
    • Unlinked brand mentions
    • Citations
    • Influencer marketing
